From the San Francisco Bay Area, Mike Frugaletti was brought up in the electronic music scene when the scene was at its pinnacle, during the mid to late 90’s. San Francisco was throwing everything from map point parties in secret locations to giant massives and the music was thriving with talent. Beginning as a spectator and b-boy, Mike was able to cultivate many relationships and witness countless sets from epic djs. This ultimately led him to a life of music.
Within just a few years of DJing, Mike assumed various residencies around the San Francisco Bay Area, holding down popular locations such as the Top, known throughout SF as the underground club for years and the infamous Kit Kat parties at the Endup, run by Marc Jellybear. This party was a staple in SF, playing host to such headliners as Mark Grant, Kevin Yost, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Miles Maeda and more.
Mike resided over the decks at the DHP (Deep House Project) residency at Wish Bar for 4 years, making it a very well known Friday night stop. Among various other gigs rampant in the Bay, Mike was able to make quite a name for himself as a dj, playing his tough, jacking but always moving and rhythmic sets along with some of the most talented and well known DJs around.
Mike has been lucky enough to travel and play in cities and countries around the world, such as Barcelona, Amsterdam, Munich, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and well throughout the U.S. such as Las Vegas, NYC, Chicago, LA and Hawaii.
In early 2000, Mike partnered up with Stompy Deron Delgado to start the house imprint Good Family Recordings, which brought to light artist Joey Youngman, releasing his first 3 tracks on Good Family 001 and Good Family 002. Once the vinyl hit the stores, the label earned quick success and was able to release more solid music from such talented DJs such as Da Sunlounge, No Assembly Firm, Jacob London, DJ Freestyle, Thomas Sahs, Natural Rhythm, Bobby Valentine, Slum Science, Jamanta Crew and many more.
Mike provided various remixes for the label, known as Triple Jack along with Delgado. Upon this, he began to produce much more and has so far released on vinyl and digital formats music from labels such as Tango, Lunatic Jazz, Guesthouse Music, Serial Sickness, Blockhead Recordings, Greenhouse, Tastie Music, Lo Kik Records, Juiced Music, 11hrz, Mercado Parcelo Music, CHFM Records and many more soon to come. Mikes releases on Lunatic Jazz have shown support from the likes of Mark Farina, Gramaphondzie, Blacksoul, Tommy Largo, Miles Maeda, Phil Weeks, Justin Harris, Joshua Heath among others.
Currently splitting time between San Francisco and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Mike has had the opportunity to play at some great spots in South America, including the D-Edge in Sao Paulo, Manga Rosa, Vegas, Car Wash, Felts Club, Disco Club, Tapioca, Kiwi, Target Club, Tango, OO, Club 69, Fosfobox, Roxy Club, Festival Universo Paralelo 2008, Brazilian Fashion Cruise MSC-2009, and recently at the Brazil Foundation Gala Rooftop Afterpary in NYC.
Mike has also formed and recently celebrated the first year anniversary of his new musical project in Rio de Janeiro called the Botafogo Social Club (www.botafogosocialclub.com), which along side his 4 partners throws parties throughout Rio playing a mixture of Funk, Soul, House, Hip Hop, Rare Groove and Brazilian music. The party and crew have taken off in the last year and have been supported by major Brazilian artists, including icon queen of Brazilian soul, Elza Soares.
With a focus on production and new projects currently in motion, Mike looks forward to pushing himself musically and growing as an artist and music lover. With a remix album already completed for Warner Records Brazil, keep an eye out for much more to come.
